Want to help shape DAISSI’s next chapter?
What does the Board do?
The Board helps guide DAISSI’s mission, vision, and values. We support community-led ideas, events, and committees as the organization grows. The board shapes a collective intent for the organization, honouring the past, celebrating the present, and looking toward the future, centring community needs, sustainability, and connection.
We’ve set new roots and tapped into those set by preceding Boards to ensure DAISSI continues to serve our community. This means reviewing, developing, and working with policies and procedures to support safety, accountability, and knowledge translation from one Board to the next. We are shaping the organization through knowledge of organizational history, community needs and interests, community engagement, and best practices.
What’s exciting about this work?
The Board is all about visioning! We are a creative bunch. Some of us are technical and detail oriented, some are great at zooming out to the big picture. Some of us are well-anchored in the Salt Spring community and some are newer. It is really exciting to work with a diverse group of people, learning about and alongside each other.
We’re looking for new board members who:
think outside the box and consider issues in a creative way
like thinking about "how" ideas turn into actions
are interested in deep listening, group decision making, and building community
Enthusiastic and engaged 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and allies who care about community, collaboration, and thoughtful leadership are welcomed. We especially encourage BIPOC, Trans, Disabled, Neurodivergent, low-income, and other underrepresented community members to reach out.
Young people, we especially want to hear from you. If you’re between 16 and 25 and interested in being part of DAISSI’s future, we warmly encourage you to apply.
Experience in fundraising, finances, communications, community partnerships, or facilitation is welcome.
What kind of commitment is required?
We attend monthly Board meetings in person, hybrid, or virtually, and typically have one working meeting in between.
Interested? We want to hear from you!
